Caves of Death (working title)

Tuesday night my gaming group went back to the Deepfall campaign after a long break. As they have roughly 22 days of in game time left before the Blood Moon is full and the Crimson Abbey cultists attempt summoning the Crimson Goddess to wreak chaos and death into the world. The party knows through their research, that the ritual can only be stopped by preventing the last of the 1000 human sacrifices at midnight during the full Blood Moon, or by the willing sacrifice a pure soul during the ritual. Their wizard has a spell that can determine if a being has a pure soul, but they have yet to find one in all of Deepfall.

During the game that night the party was staying in Odyssius the Wizard’s tower. Farix (Nate) asked Odyssious (NPC Wizard) if he knew of anyway to find a pure soul, the old wizard just said the only thing he knew of was the spell the party’s wizard had, and he was too busy to help right now. He did give Farix permission to go into his library to look for clues. Farix went to library and began pouring over the old texts and books. As a GM I knew this would be really difficult, so I told him he would only find something after searching for at least four hours (in game time) and he rolled a Nat 20. He proceeded reserching and course he rolled a Nat 20. I told him that he found a passage in an ancient, dusty old book that referred to a Soul Stone that may be pure enough, or in someway will help find a pure soul. He now knows the title of a tome to look for. (I totally made all that up on the fly, the Soul Stone that is.)

After the game, I pondered all this while compiling all the session notes, XP, etc. I came up with the idea of the Caves of Death, the possible last known location of the Soul Stone. I was thinking of something along the lines of the old B-2 module The Keep on the Borderlands, multiple cave entrances, with some connected and perhaps some not. I started sketching that night into the wee hours, trying to bring the idea to life. I finished the sketch earlier this evening. So here it is, a handout of the sketch of the Caves of Death, kind of a worms-eye view of the mountain where the Caves of Death are located.

I am thinking of locating the Caves of Death here on the Deepfall wilderness map.

Hope you kids enjoy the picture, now I have to map out all the caves, stock them, and prep everything by next Tuesday, wish me luck.
