My first 5-Minute Map

I have been watching the whole 5-Minute map thing lately, and decided to have a go at it. Man, 5 minutes is not very much time, but it is kind of fun to draw against a timer. This one was done in exactly 5 mins, I set the sharpie pen down when the timer went off. I did erase the grid lines, and did an anisotropic diffuse of the image in photoshop to smooth out the lines (something I always do with my maps and geomorphs). I did another 7 of these things, some are ok, some not so good. I’ll post those as well.

Damn glad to see you back. I have a fantasy game coming that will benefit greatly from your fresh maps!

Thanks Chris, went through some kind of creative shut down this last year, between the jobs, the kids, the dog. Just didn’t seem to have anything left to be creative too. Thank the gods for these little 5 min maps, they seem to have me going again.

Good to see you back, and good to see you’re using the King of Pens. I love my Sharpie pens after finding out that even a downpour that washed the gridlines out of my notebook didn’t phase the Sharpie pen ink one bit – and I managed to save some puzzles and maps as a result 🙂

About this blog

This blog came into being after I discovered the OSR blog scene. I was inspired by Dyson Logos and his blog, specifically his geomorph project. Check out his awesome work: "Dyson's Dodecahedron" The style and the simple elegance of his 10 x 10 squares put me on a mapping roll. I have blatently (...and respectfully) emulated his style and now have pages upon pages of geomorphs. Along with more location specific maps in that same style.

My intent for this blog is for it to be more than just maps and geomorphs. However, for now, I'm just enjoying this burst of creativity inspired by Dyson and the entire OSR community.
