Surfing the OSR blog-o-sphere the other day I came across this image posted over at The “Fighting Fantasist. It inspired me to create a map I call the “The Pit of Despair”
This is the map I drew from said inspiration. It starts with a wide, deep pit, your adventurers will need lots of rope and iron spikes to climb down this thing. At the bottom is an underground lake with a large tentacled monster ready pull any who survived the climb down to a watery, horrible death. Anyone still standing after that will have to swim under water to go any further into the pit. They soon discover the large natural stone pillars, which must be climbed to reach the ledge above. From here it is a relatively easy climb to the long stairs leading to a large ancient temple, look out for that crevasse! The ancient temple has a large magical eternal flame burning on top of it, lighting up the cavern with an evil glow. Once inside there is a small dungeon beneath the temple which leads to a shrine with the statue of a long forgotten demon. Who built the temple? What is the name of this ancient unknown demon? Does anyone dare to utter it’s name? As always enjoy. I’d love to hear from anyone who uses this to create an adventure. I’ll link to it or even post it here. Click on the image for a full page PDF.
